March Plan / Flexibility (8U - 12U)
I wanted to follow up on the plan for March for our 12U and under teams. Each Spring, we move to a different model to accommodate players who want to play Little League or other rec programs, but also give players not playing rec baseball ample skills development opportunities. I believe we are the only travel baseball program that provides this level of flexibility.
We will move to 2 events per week in March, with one event being a Sunday game. For those players not doing Little League, we recommend 3 events per week.
The focus of the March curriculum (on weekdays and some Saturdays) will be skills clinics with a strong focus on skills development in areas that are specific to travel baseball. A couple of examples are baserunning and defending against the running game, which players do not encounter in Little League. The goal will be to teach and reinforce skills that lead to Sunday game success.
The skills clinics will be very flexible and enable each family to pick what is best for their player based on schedule and development interests. There will be a sign-up process. Players will be divided into groups by age and skill level, and more advanced players will be taught more advanced skills. First sign up availability will be for this Thursday and Friday, and released on Tuesday.
March will start with a regularly scheduled team practice either today, tomorrow or Wednesday, with clinic opportunities starting on Thursday through the end of the month.
The default program is 2 events per week. Players who participate in 2 events per week may attend 8 total events in a calendar month. Those who sign up for 3 events per week may attend 12 events in the month, and those who sign up for 1 event per week may attend 4 events in the month.
Each player can sign up for the amount of events based on their plan. It will be entirely managed through an honor system. If players want to choose 1 or 3 events per week, let me know.
Games will be added to TeamSnap, and we will be creating a different sign up process for the skills clinics. This week’s team practices (M-W), are considered 1 event as part of the month’s activities, if your player attends.
I think this is an exciting plan that supports local recreational baseball, allows flexibility, gives players some choices, and ultimately, builds skills that translate to game success both short-term and long-term.
